West Coast Equine is looking for a full, part-time or locum equine surgeon to join our team. WCE is a well-established, privately owned, full-service referral hospital, that also provides local ambulatory services. The hospital has the traditional equipment for diagnosis (including MRI) and treatment to provide high quality medicine and surgery. The surgery and anesthesia components are top notch with 2 hand-assisted recovery rooms, standing surgery room and CO2 laser surgery. The clientele is loyal, caring and usually supports our best recommendations for their horses' care. A candidate interested in equine sports medicine would be desirable. There are plenty of high caliber performance horses and committed clients to allow expansion of services in performance horse medicine. The practice would love to welcome a new surgeon with new ideas, and let them develop their own niche in our community. They will also join a close knit group of our referring veterinarians.
The surgeon would be supported by the staff surgeon, an internist, and interns. The staff surgeon would provide mentorship and the newly graduated resident would have ample assistance in areas that may need more expertise. Surgery cases would include soft tissue, orthopedic and emergencies. The hospital has a welcoming, friendly and dedicated staff. A long-term commitment is desired and there is opportunity for partnership. The applicant must be board certified or have successfully completed a residency registered by ACVS.
Salary will be competitive, would include a guaranteed minimum with production based compensation and is commensurate with experience and tailored to the work schedule and production. Benefits include simple IRA, health insurance, professional liability insurance, state license dues in CA, membership dues in AAEP and ACVS, and a continuing education stipend. We are willing to discuss any other options to work around travel/family/board study requests, including locum work. A single-family home may be available at a reduced rate to help offset initial housing costs and ease the transition of moving.
