Assistant/Associate/Full Clinical or Tenure-Track Professor
Clinical or Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Small Animal Surgery
The Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine has an immediate opening for a clinical or tenure track faculty position in Small Animal Surgery (rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, or Assistant, Associate, or Full Clinical Professor). Qualified candidates must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (or equivalent). Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), European College of Veterinary Surgeons, or residency-trained individuals will be considered. Clinical competence in veterinary surgery is required. Demonstrated aptitude in teaching and clinical research is preferred. For the tenure-track position, development of a specific area of clinical and research focus and expertise, supervision of postgraduate degree students, external grant acquisition, and manuscript publication are expected and supported.
Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits package includes substantial paid vacation, retirement, health insurance, and generous consulting options. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
Teaching responsibilities involve didactic teaching and clinical training of professional DVM and technology students, interns, residents, and graduate students in an innovative academic program. Service responsibilities include clinical case management, rotating emergency duty, and consultation with private practitioners. Clinical duties are shared with other faculty members. MSU is a collaborative environment with opportunities for clinical research with other services and researchers on the main campus. Four board-certified small animal surgeons, four ACVS residents, a surgery specialty intern, and several licensed veterinary technicians currently support the service. The Surgery service works closely with robust Diagnostic Imaging, Internal Medicine, Anesthesia and Emergency and Critical Care services, amongst others. The department has state of the art surgical and examination equipment, which includes BioMedtrix CFX, BFX and Lateral Bolt hip replacement systems for standard and large breeds; Arthrex Ortholine Fracture System and TPLO Sets, Arthrex Tower, Synthes TPLO and Locking Plate Sets, SOP Plating Systems, External Fixation Systems (Linear and Circular); BioMedtrix ILOC IM Fixator (Interlocking Nail) sizes 3, 4, 5 and 6, 7, 8; Titanium Plates, and General Laparoscopy/Thoracoscopy Equipment, on site advanced imaging including intra-op C-Arm fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, and dedicated exam and surgical suites. All equipment is maintained in good working order and is replaced as needed. We are passionate about small animal surgery, patient care, teaching, and learning!
