Board-Certified Small Animal Surgeon, DACVS-SA
VROC is seeking a board-certified small animal surgeon with an established focus in orthopedic and spine surgery to join our 100% surgeon-built and owned specialty hospital in Austin, Texas.

VROC was built around a clear purpose: to advance small animal orthopedic and spine surgery through clinical excellence, education, and transformative, outcomes-focused research. We are not a general specialty hospital where surgery is one department among many, and we are not structured around emergency overflow. Our model is intentionally focused on orthopedic, spine, joint replacement, and advanced minimally invasive procedures.

Position Highlights
Clinical Platform
- Orthopedic and spine specialty practice
- Arthroscopy, minimally invasive procedures, complex fracture repair, and spinal surgery
- Comprehensive joint replacement program for the hip, knee, elbow, ankle and shoulder
- 3D planning, printed patient-specific guides, integrated rehabilitation, and objective outcomes tracking
Schedule and Compensation
- 4-day work week
- No on-call or weekends
- $250,000 base salary
- 25% production commission
- No negative accrual

Facility and Support
- Newly built, 17,500-square-foot hospital
- Four large operating rooms and a separate isolation surgical suite
- CT (Fujifilm Supria 32), fluoroscopy (Fujifilm FDR Cross), arthroscopy (Arthrex), and advanced orthopedic and spine instrumentation

- Dedicated doctor’s assistant for each surgeon and surgical technician support

The Opportunity
This role is intended for a surgeon who wants to go deeper in orthopedic and spine surgery rather than maintain a broad general surgical caseload.
The associate surgeon will work across complex orthopedic and spinal procedures, total joint replacement, minimally invasive surgery, advanced case planning, 3D workflows, and measured post-operative recovery. VROC offers daily peer collaboration and continued mentorship, including support from Dr. Laurent Guiot, DACVS, DECVS, a VROC owner involved in developing the hospital’s total joint and advanced procedure platform.
Because VROC is still early in its growth, the incoming surgeon will have a meaningful voice in clinical protocols, equipment planning, workflow, education, research, and service development. Surgeon ownership keeps those decisions close to the people performing the work and accountable to the standards of the profession.
Hospital, Education, and Surgeon Support
VROC connects advanced surgery with integrated rehabilitation and objective outcomes measurement. AMTI force plates support gait analysis, post-operative tracking, and research, while 3D planning and printed patient-specific guides strengthen precision in complex cases.
Education is built into the facility. The OR viewing gallery, lecture spaces, live-streaming capability, and wet-lab infrastructure support mentorship, continuing education, referring veterinarian education, and surgical training. Surgeons may also participate in multicenter research with publication opportunities and help develop an outcomes-focused model for orthopedic and spine care in private specialty practice.
Each surgeon is supported by a dedicated doctor’s assistant who coordinates consult flow, estimates, records, discharges, client follow-through, and referring veterinarian communication. A dedicated treatment and surgical technician team supports efficient transitions between procedures, operating rooms, and recovery.
