We are seeking a dedicated Overnight ICU Veterinary Assistant to join our Emergency & Critical Care team in Oklahoma City.

As an Overnight ICU Veterinary Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting veterinarians and credentialed technicians while caring for critically ill and hospitalized patients. This position is ideal for someone who remains calm under pressure, communicates effectively, and enjoys working in emergency and specialty medicine.
You will be part of a collaborative team providing advanced veterinary care using modern equipment and progressive treatment protocols in a high-acuity hospital environment.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Assist veterinarians and technicians with emergency and critical care procedures
Monitor hospitalized and ICU patients overnight
Obtain patient vitals and accurately document treatments and observations
Assist with patient restraint, triage, diagnostics, and treatment preparation
Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment and ICU areas
Support emergency surgeries and procedures as needed
Communicate effectively with team members to ensure continuity of care
Provide compassionate care to patients and support to pet owners during emergencies
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Candidates should be comfortable performing or assisting with:
Intravenous (IV) catheter placement
Blood draws and sample collection
Patient restraint and safe animal handling
Hospitalized patient monitoring and nursing care
Administering medications as directed
Running in-house laboratory equipment and diagnostics
Radiology assistance and imaging preparation
Fluid therapy setup and monitoring
Surgical and procedure preparation
CPR assistance and emergency response support
Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment sheets
Qualifications
Previous veterinary assistant experience required
Emergency, ICU, or specialty hospital experience strongly preferred
Ability to work overnight shifts in a fast-paced emergency setting
Strong multitasking, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to remain calm under pressure and prioritize patient needs efficiently
Passion for emergency veterinary medicine and patient advocacy

Neel Veterinary Hospital is a 14k square foot, hybrid/full-service small animal veterinary hospital, serving the Oklahoma City community for over 30 years. We have a collaborative team of DVMs, including multiple specialists (Surgery, ABVP), Rotating Small Animal Interns, and experienced knowledgeable support staff members. We have nine exam rooms, a double surgery suite, a full in-house lab, u/s, radiology, a fully staffed 24/7 ICU, and the only pet-specific Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Chamber in Oklahoma.
Our goal is to provide the care and facilities necessary to make sure that the pets entrusted to us live long and healthy life, as pain-free and as comfortably as possible.
